Before buying a medicine, check whether the seller is authorised and whether the product is registered in Hong Kong where applicable. The Drug Office publishes medicine recalls, safety alerts, products found to contain undeclared medicines, the registered pharmaceutical product database and lists of licensed drug dealers.
Red flags
- Unusually low prices or claims of guaranteed cures.
- No clear active ingredient, registration details, expiry date or manufacturer.
- Packaging that is damaged, altered or inconsistent with the product information.
- A seller that avoids prescription or professional advice when one is required.
Do not use a suspicious product. Keep the packaging and ask a pharmacist or contact the relevant authority for advice.
