GLP-1 medicines are prescription treatments used in specific clinical situations. WHO’s December 2025 guidance gives conditional recommendations for long-term treatment of obesity in adults, as part of comprehensive care that includes diet, physical activity and professional support. It excludes pregnancy from that recommendation.

Buying and using safely

  • Use a product prescribed or recommended by a qualified healthcare professional.
  • Do not buy an injectable product from an unverified website or use a product labelled only for research or not for human consumption.
  • Ask how to measure and administer the prescribed product. FDA has reported dosing errors and adverse events with some compounded products.
  • Check the packaging, pharmacy details and instructions, and ask a pharmacist or doctor if anything looks unusual.

This information does not tell you whether a GLP-1 medicine is suitable for you or what dose to use.
